As we count down to training camp, the Giants Country editorial team went through the rosters of each of the Giants' 2023 regular-season opponents and selected a player that, if the Giants could acquire for the upcoming season, they absolutely should.

Who did we pick from each team? Stay tuned--and yes, for the NFC East teams, we picked two players since the Giants play them twice.

Stefon Diggs, Wide Receiver

Height: 6-foot-0 | Weight: 191 lbs.
College: Maryland | Experience: 8 years
Career Stats: 703 receptions, 8,812 yards, 59 touchdowns in 119 career regular season games.

If there’s one position that New York Giants fans want to see a superstar emerge, it's at wide receiver.

The Giants have had their fair share of alpha wideouts in the past. Victor Cruz breaking onto the scene during their magical 2011 Super Bowl run made him a household name. Odell Beckham Jr was arguably the most popular player in the entire league during his tenure with the Giants.

Since the team traded Beckham away before the 2019 season, they’ve struggled to replace his production and haven't had a true, number-one receiver.

The Giants did surround Daniel Jones with upgraded talent ahead of the 2023 season. They traded for tight end Darren Waller, who will almost certainly be the number one option. They signed Parris Campbell, drafted Jalin Hyatt, and brought Isaiah Hodgins and Darius Slayton back.

It’s a solid group that should perform better than last year’s. However, there’s still a need for a number-one wide receiver.

But if they could land someone like Buffalo's Stefon Diggs, imagine what this offense could look like. Diggs has been one of the league’s most consistent wideouts since entering the league in 2015. The connection with Giants head coach Brian Daboll is obvious, as Daboll was Diggs’ offensive coordinator for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

In a dream scenario, adding Diggs to this Giants' offense would put them over the top and finally fill the void they’ve been missing at the wide receiver position for years.

Week 1: Micah Parsons | Week 2: Budda Baker | Week 3: Fred Warner | Week 4: Tariq Woolen | Week 5: Tyreek Hill

Where Would He Fit In?

There’s no question that Diggs would be the immediate number-one option on this Giants team. Adding him to an offense that employs Saquon Barkley, Darren Waller, Daniel Bellinger, Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, Parris Campbell, Wan’Dale Robinson, Sterling Shepard, and Jalin Hyatt would certainly put the Giants on track to becoming one of the better units in the league.

Diggs can be used out wide, where he primarily lines up, or in the slot. Last year, He played 400 snaps lined up outside, or about 66 percent of his total offensive snaps. His versatility will make him heavily utilized and relied on in this Giants’ system, especially since Daboll already knows how to employ his services.

Diggs’ track record speaks for itself. He’s made the Pro Bowl in the last three seasons, was named a first-team All-Pro in 2020, and has had five straight seasons of at least 1,000+ receiving yards.

He was also named to the NFL’s Top 100 list every year since 2018 and made the NFL All-Rookie team in 2015. In 2020, he led the league in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535). Last season, Diggs went on a tear, catching 108 passes for 1,429 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns.

Diggs is one of the most prolific receivers in the league right now. He demands success and wants to be a big part of winning games. If the Giants could get him, just think about how well he'd fit into a system he already knows.
