Giants to Interview Shane Bowen for Defensive Coordinator Role
Add another candidate to the New York Giants search for a new defensive coordinator.
ESPN Titans beat writer Turron Davenport has reported that former Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen will interview with both the Giants and the Jaguars for their respective vacant defensive coordinator roles.
Bowen, 37 years old, began coaching as a student assistant at Georgia Tech in 2009, where he stayed until 2011. He took on his first position coach role in the college ranks at Kennesaw State, coaching the linebackers from 2013-2015.
His first NFL job came in 2016 with the Texans, where he was a defensive assistant for two years. The Titans hired him in 2018, first as their outside linebackers coach before eventually being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2021.
This past season, the Titan's defense finished 18th in the league (335.1 yards/game), 13th against the run (107.7 yards/game), 18th against the pass (227.4 yards/game), and last in interception percentage. However, the Titan's defense finished first in the league in some situational football categories, including the red zone (37.7 percent) and goal-to-goal (42.86 percent).
Bowen is the second known candidate to interview for the Giants' defensive coordinator opening. Dennard Wilson, the Ravens defensive backs coach, is also being considered for the job.
