New York Giants running backs coach DeAndre Smith is reportedly leaving the team for a position on new Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen's staff, per a Daily News report.

Steichen, formerly the Eagles offensive coordinator, and Smith were once co-workers on UNLV's coaching staff back in 2009. Smith was the running backs coach, and Steichen was an offensive graduate assistant.

Smith's coaching career dates back to 1999 when he was hired as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana State. After 22 years at the college level, he was hired on February 1, 2022, by Giants head coach Brian Daboll, with whom Smith didn't have a prior working relationship, to head up the Giants running backs.

Smith is the second known change to Daboll's coaching staff. The Giants head coach recently added his son, Christian, formerly a student coach at Penn State, to the staff as an entry-level offensive assistant.
