New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has completed the filling out his coaching staff for the upcoming season. This staff will also see three returning assistants gain additional responsibilities.

Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who had interviewed for the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks head coaching jobs and was requested by the Seahawks to be interviewed for their offensive coordinator role (the request was denied), was promoted to assistant head coach. Kafka will also retain his role as offensive coordinator, though it is unknown if he will be the primary play-caller in 2024.

Defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, who received an interview for the team's defensive coordinator role, which ultimately went to Shane Bowen, will have additional duties this year as the team's defensive passing game coordinator.

Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, the offensive coordinator in this year's Senior Bowl, will also be the team's offensive passing game coordinator.

The two newest additions are Charlie Bullen, who will take on the outside linebackers coach role previously held by the fired Drew Wilkins, and Zak Kuhr, who will be a defensive assistant, a role previously held by Kevin Wilkins, who was also dismissed at the end of the 2023 season by Daboll.

Bullen spent the previous two seasons as the Illinois football program’s outside linebackers coach/pass rush coordinator. He has 11 years of NFL coaching experience, including four years with the Cardinals, where he was the team's assistant linebacker coach before being promoted to outside linebacker coach for the 2020-2022 seasons.

New York Giants Coaching Tracker: Who's Coming, Who's Going?

Bullen’s outside linebacker group with the Cardinals ranked fifth in the NFL with 89 total sacks from 2020-2021. Of those, 50 came via the outside linebacker position. During that span, three Cardinals outside linebackers posted 10+ sacks: Markus Golden, Chandler Jones, and Haason Reddick.

Before that stint, Bullen, who began his coaching career as a student assistant (quarterbacks) with the University of Iowa in 2007, was with the Miami Dolphins, working in various defensive-related positions as an assistant.

Kuhr (pronounced “COOR”) joins the Giants from the Tennessee Titans staff, where he worked with new Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, as the inside linebackers assistant coach from 2021-2023. The year prior, Kuhr was a quality control coach for the Titans.

Before his work with the Titans, his first NFL coaching gig, Kuhr spent the 2009-2019 seasons in the college ranks, where he had one season (2016) with Rutgers as the team's running backs coach. His other college stops include the University of Texas, Texas State, James Madison, Old Dominion, Ohio State (intern), and Edward Waters University.
