Garrett Wilson's Fantasy Football Value Taking Off
Call it the Aaron Rodgers Effect.
The New York Jets future Hall-of-Fame quarterback is already making his new teammates better in the eyes of fantasy football enthusiasts. Jets' WR1 Garrett Wilson provides the latest example.
Wilson, the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, is coming off a 1,100-yard receiving season despite the team's unstable quarterback situation in 2022. Now, with Rodgers in the fold, the expectations for Gang Green's young pass-catcher are higher than ever.
NFL fantasy analyst Adam Rank unveiled his "Top 5 wide receivers for fantasy football in 2023" and Wilson made the cut.
"And at number five, this is going to be shocking, I'm going to go with Garrett Wilson," said Rank while appearing on NFL Network's "Total Access."
"You might not have heard, but they made a change at the quarterback position for the New York Jets," said Rank. "I've been tormented by Aaron Rodgers for years. And make no mistake, do not overlook this guy. He had an injured thumb last year, and he's petty enough to put up 5,000 yards this season. The Jets are getting Peyton Manning to the Broncos, not Russell Wilson to the Broncos."
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, accounted for 6.8 yards per pass and a 64.8 completion percentage in 2022.
Despite both numbers falling below his career average, the veteran's performance still produced better results than a quartet of Jets' quarterbacks last season. Gang Green finished dead last amongst NFL team leaders in completion percentage (56.9) and its 6.45 yards per attempt ranked 27th out of 32 clubs.
In 2023, fantasy football managers will get to see how high Wilson's production will go with the benefit of improved quarterback play.

"You are going to want to make sure you have Garrett Wilson on your roster this season," continued Rank during the 3.5-minute segment. "Don't be afraid to stack him, either."
The No. 5 overall rank places Wilson one spot ahead of All-Pro Davante Adams on Rank's receivers' list.
Wilson, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, proceeded to lead the Jets in receptions (83), receiving yards (1,103) and touchdown catches (4). He recorded first downs on 56 of his 83 receptions and gained 384 yards after the catch.
The Ohio State product, who recorded at least one catch in all 17 games, exceeded 50-yard receiving mark in 10 of 17 appearances as a rookie.
Sports Illustrated fantasy expert Michael Fabiano slotted Wilson as the WR10, and 19th-best player overall, in his most-up-to-date rankings.
