The expectations are higher than they've been in awhile for the New York Jets and the betting lines have confirmed that notion.

The Jets are an underdog of more than 1.5 points only once on the 17-game schedule

Gang Green opens the season as a slight underdog against Buffalo (-1.5) on Monday Night Football, but the line has already moved toward the Green & White, which opened at a 2.5-point underdog on May 11. The over-under for the season opener is 48 total points.

After Week 1, the Jets are the point-spread favorite in 12 of 16 games moving forward. They are only a one-point home 'dog when the Super Bowl LVII champion Kansas City Chiefs visit MetLife Stadium on October 1.

The opponent is slightly favored in three of the four games during the Jets' grueling season-opening stretch. Meanwhile, the Jets (-3.5) are the favorite in a Week 3 home battle against the New England Patriots

The Green & White are heavily favored to win the first two games in December. The Jets are laying 6.5 points against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. One week later, Gang Green is an 8.5-point favorite over the lowly Houston Texans.

The Aaron Rodgers Effect can be seen in the sharp bettors' perception of the Jets. Gang Green's Super Bowl payout dropped to +1400 when the Rodgers rumors surfaced after opening in the +2500 to +3500 range depending upon the sportsbook.

With a four-time NFL MVP taking the snaps, the Jets stock is as high as its been in a decade. Sports Illustrated projected an 11-win season for Gang Green after the NFL schedule release. Then, NFL analytics expert Cynthia Frelund had the Green & White at fifth overall in the AFC on her projected win totals list.

In terms of the AFC East race, the Jets (+250) rank second on the odds board right behind the three-time defending division champion Bills (+130).
