Sportsbook Lists New York Jets as Serious Threat to Buffalo Bills
The New York Jets are the top challenger to the reigning three-time AFC East division champion Buffalo Bills according to official wagering odds.
FanDuel has posted division winner futures odds for all 32 NFL teams. When it comes to the AFC East, the Bills are the betting favorite to capture a fourth straight crown at +130 followed by the Jets with the next-shortest odds at +250.
Gang Green's odds have moved substantially since the Aaron Rodgers trade rumors began to seriously percolate in early March. Initially tabbed as unlikely contenders, the Jets were a +1800 bet to win their division prior to acquiring a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.
Once the longest shot to dethrone Buffalo, the Jets, who finished fourth in the final 2022 AFC East standings, have leap-frogged the Miami Dolphins (+290) and New England Patriots (+750).
The belief in Florham Park has been that the Jets were just a quarterback away from seriously contending last year. They finished with the NFL's fourth-ranked defense and owned a 7-4 record at one point, including a 20-17 win over the Bills. Gang Green lost six straight games to end the season and hopes the upgrade at QB will prevent a spiral in 2023.
On the AFC Championship Winner odds board, Rodgers and the Jets have the fourth-lowest payback out of the 16 teams.
Gang Green sits at +900 or 9-to-1 to capture the Lamar Hunt Trophy. Only three clubs are bigger favorites than the Jets in the race for the AFC crown. The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are No. 1 at +350 (7:2). The Bills are +450 (9:2) followed by the Cincinnati Bengals are +500 (5:1).
Odds to Win AFC EAST:
Buffalo Bills +130
New York Jets +250
Miami Dolphins +290
New England Patriots +750
