Bronx-Built Quarterback Heading to Jets Rookie Camp

Fordham's all-time leading passer has an NFL audition with Gang Green

- UPDATE: DeMorat was signed to an UDFA contract by the Washington Commanders on Monday following the publishing of this article on Sunday (source) -

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero's phone was likely on the borderline of overheating as the news of undrafted free agent signings and tryout agreements flooded social media in the hours following the 2023 NFL Draft.

Fordham quarterback Tim DeMorat's name was amongst the reports tweeted out by Pelissero. The three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year will have the chance to live out his NFL dream only a short drive away from the place where he threw for more than 13,000 yards.

Per Pelissero's source, the New York Jets have invited DeMorat to participate at their rookie minicamp.

According to the NFL and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team can host one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft. In 2022, the Jets opened rookie minicamp (May 6-9) six days following the draft's completion.

When the Jets' rookie convene this spring, the most prolific passer in Fordham history will be present in Florham Park. Only three quarterbacks, including former NFL starters Steve McNair and Devlin Hodges, have thrown for more yards at the Division I FCS level than DeMorat.

In his final collegiate campaign, the 6-foot-3 DeMorat threw for 4,891 yards and 56 touchdowns over 12 games and finished second overall in Stats Perform Walter Payton Award voting.

He went on to the Hula Bowl, impressing scouts enough to subsequently earn an invitation to the prestigious East West Shrine Bowl

NFL Draft Bible Scouting Report Excerpt (DeMorat): "A clutch performer, DeMorat thrives in the short-to-intermediate passing attack, demonstrates nice touch, good awareness, along with excellent pocket poise and presence. While he lacks the necessary arm strength to push the ball downfield, DeMorat compensates for his deficiencies by working on the finer details such as head and ball fakes."
