Heated Moments, Precise Passes Highlight Jets' Training Camp Practice

Recapping an action-packed weekend session in Florham Park

The fans showed up for an eventful Saturday at New York Jets' Training Camp.

A lot transpired, including an on-field dust up, during the first preseason practice open to spectators.

"I love it," said head coach Robert Saleh about the environment in Florham Park. "You know when the fans come, it’s easy for a coach, because now those guys are excited to show out, but you try to keep them focused and level whether fans are there or not."

Wearing his new No. 11 jersey, edge rusher Jermaine Johnson mixed it up with tight end Kenny Yeboah early in the day. There were punches thrown during the altercation, but it was nothing out of the ordinary for a hot summer day at camp.

About one-half hour later, defensive lineman Micheal Clemons appeared extremely aggravated while taking a swing in the direction of tight end Jeremy Ruckert.

Saleh, however, didn't seem fazed by the heated exchanges.

"Yeah, it’s hot," said Saleh when asked about the "testy" practice session. "It was good, a good competitive practice. It was good to see the offense fight back a little bit."

Led by future Hall-of-Fame signal caller Aaron Rodgers, who received a rousing ovation from the fans as he entered the practice field, the offense made for some impressive moments on Saturday.

In addition to witnessing a handful of overheated tempers throughout the day, fans had the chance to see Rodgers at his best during red zone work.

The savvy veteran hit the target nicely on first-class touchdown receptions by tight end Tyler Conklin and receiver Corey Davis.

"Precision," said Saleh describing the display by Rodgers. "The throw he made to Corey [Davis], I don’t know if you could’ve put it anywhere else. D.J. [Reed] had really, really nice coverage."

Next, Rodgers delivered a strike to Mecole Hardman in the back of the end zone. The speedy slot receiver came down with his feet inbounds as practice came to a close.

"Just overall, just great precision," said Saleh. "It was a really good day for him."

Rodgers has 475 career touchdown passes during the regular season, ranking fifth on the NFL's all-time list.
