MMQB Staff Predicts Jets vs. Broncos Outcome, Identifies Key In-Game Matchup
The picks are in ahead of the important AFC battle between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 8 at Mile High Stadium.
Sports Illustrated's MMQB seven-person panel unveiled their Week 5 game-by-game selections and five experts selected the Jets to defeat the Broncos in Denver. The two defectors were senior writer Conor Orr and managing editor John Pluym.
All picks are straight up without taking the point spread into account. The Jets are one of three betting line underdogs chosen by a majority of the panel to win outright this week. Denver opened the week as a 2.5-point favorite according to SI Sportsbook.
Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, who leads the weekly MMQB picks competition with a 45-19 record, sided with Gang Green in the crucial intra-conference matchup.
Also amongst Jets' backers this week, SI staff writer Matthew Verderame highlighted a crucial in-game matchup that could significantly affect the final result.
From NFL Week 5 Schedule: Best Matchups Include Dak Prescott Against the 49ers’ Defense:
New York Jets (1–3) at Denver Broncos (1–3)
Key matchup: Zach Wilson vs. the Broncos’ secondary.
Wilson may have come of age against the Chiefs on Sunday night, going 28-of-39 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Broncos have allowed a league-worst 78.1% completion rate.
Wilson will have open receivers in Denver, and he needs to be accurate when finding them.
