Jets Meeting With Elite Pass-Rusher

After losing Bryce Huff in free agency, the New York Jets are targeting veteran pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney to fill his position.

The New York Jets have kept a patient philosophy during free agency in 2024.

General manager Joe Douglas has stayed away from overpaying at positions of need and has tried to find the right value for positions of need over the first week. While that patient approach has led to the loss of pass-rushing dynamo Bryce Huff, it's allowed the organization to find a quality replacement potentially.

Jets - Jadeveon Clowney

New York is scheduled to have former first-overall pick Jadeveon Clowney in for a free-agent meeting. The Jets will be the latest visit for the former South Carolina product but is meeting with the Carolina Panthers as well.

Clowney recorded 9.5 sacks last season with the Baltimore Ravens and will enter his 11th season next year.

Originally drafted by the Houston Texans, Clowney has bounced around to several teams over the last few years including the Seahawks, Titans, and Browns. He has recorded over nine sacks in two of the last three seasons but hasn't recorded a 10-sack season yet in his career.

The Jets need an extra pass rusher following Huff's decision to sign a three-year, $51 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles to kick off free agency. While the organization still has quality pass rushers like Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson, and John Franklin-Myers.

Clowney would not only provide some depth to their pass rush but his experience and leadership that was appreciated in Baltimore last season would be extremely helpful to prepare former first-round picks like McDonald and Johnson.

Huff's loss may hurt the Jets in terms of overall stats, but the potential signing of Clowney shows the organization is looking to replace the young pass rusher in the overall aggregate.
