The New York Jets officially placed linebacker Maalik Hall on waivers Friday, per the team’s official website.

Hall originally joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Southeastern Oklahoma State in April 2023. Shortly thereafter, the 25-year-old signed a three-year, $2.6 million contract with the Jets soon after.

Hall was waived during the preseason with an injury designation and later reverted to the team’s injured reserve list, where he remained for the duration of the season.

Having played five seasons of collegiate football at Southeastern Oklahoma State, Hall appeared in 43 games and recorded 154 tackles, 14 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a blocked kick and three passed-defensed. His standout season came in 2021, when he won the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Year award.

Hall was one of three undrafted rookie linebackers who earned UDFA contracts with the Jets last season — joining Alcorn State's Claudin Cherelus and Miami's Caleb Johnson on the Jets' 90-man roster.

Johnson was released by the Jets during final roster cuts and subsequently spent time on the practice squads of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. He was signed by Cleveland Browns to a reserve/futures contract in January.

Cherelus was released also released at the conclusion of 2023 training camp. He was then claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers, His season came to an end in November after being placed on injured reserve.

Offseason Outlook: Steps to Building a Jets Contender

New York is expected to enter the upcoming season well-stocked at linebacker. In addition to starters C.J. Mosley, Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams, reserves Marcelino McCrary-Ball, Chaz Surratt and Zaire Barnes are under contract. Only weakside linebacker Sam Eguavoen is set to become an unrestricted free agent when the league year begins next month.
