Nightmarish Start to Aaron Rodgers's First Start as Jet

QB suffers first-quarter ankle injury in regular season debut

Four plays into the New York Jets' first offensive series of the Monday Night Football season opener, quarterback Aaron Rodgers left the game due to an injury. 

The future Hall-of-Fame field general was sacked by Buffalo Bills' defensive end Leonard Floyd for a 10-yard loss on a 1st-and-10 play from the Jets' 43-yard line. Floyd, a former Los Angeles Ram who signed a free-agent deal with the Bills this past offseason, rushed into the backfield on Rodgers's blindside. 

After being taken to the ground, the 39-year-old Rodgers gingerly rose to his feet before sitting back down on the turf. Rodgers eventually limped off to the sideline, giving way to backup Zach Wilson, who was unable to move the chains after taking over a 2nd-and-20 situation.

Rodgers was subsequently seen going into the blue medical tent and then went to the locker-room on a cart. The Jets initially listed Rodgers as QUESTIONABLE to return with an ankle injury. Then, later in the first half, the team officially ruled their starting quarterback OUT for the remainder of the night.

The four-time NFL MVP, who joined the Jets via trade in late April, fought through a calf problem during OTAs.

Prior to the early exit, Rodgers's lone pass attempt was a throw-away as he was being flushed from the pocket. The veteran quarterback was under duress on three consecutive dropbacks, a sequence that ended with the Floyd sack.
