Rodgers 'On the Road to Recovery' After Achilles Surgery
New York Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers is already on the comeback trail after suffering a season-ending Achilles rupture in Monday night's season opener.
The 39-year-old Rodgers underwent surgery on Wednesday according to a message that he posted to his Instagram story on Thursday evening.
Using his @aaronrodgers12 account, the four-time NFL MVP showed a photo of himself smiling in a hospital bed. The text overlay said, "Surgery went great yesterday. Thank you for all the love and prayers and support. And thanks to the 🐐 Dr ElAttrache and his staff for starting me on the road to recovery ❤️"
Rodgers suffered the devastating injury to his left Achilles on the Jets' fourth offensive snap against the Buffalo Bills. Defensive end Leonard Floyd wrestled Rodgers down to the turf from the blindside and the quarterback's foot got caught as he tried to escape.
Since the incident occurred, speculation over Rodgers's playing future has swirled. Some feared that the 19th-year pro, who is under contract with Gang Green for the 2024 season, would opt to call it quits.
It's seeming more and more likely, however, that we haven't seen the last of Rodgers in Green & White.
On Wednesday, he posted a message aimed at thanking his supporters on Instagram and ended with an inspirational quote. "The night is darkest before dawn. And I shall rise yet again. Proud of my guys, 1-0," said Rodgers.
The future Hall-of-Fame field general has mentioned, on multiple occasions, that he does not view his marriage with the Jets as a "one-and-done" scenario.
"I'd be shocked if this is the way he's gonna go out," said head coach Robert Saleh prior to Wednesday's practice in Florham Park.
Rodgers will turn 40 years old on December 2. He ranks fifth all-time amongst NFL career leaders in touchdown passes (475) and ninth in pass yards (59,055).
Possibly ready to reveal his future plans, Rodgers is scheduled to appear on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, September 15 at 2:10 pm ET.
