It's only July, but Aaron Rodgers will technically play for a title on Sunday.

The New York Jets' starting quarterback sits in a tie for 12th place on the individual leaderboard after two rounds of golf at the three-day American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe.

Rodgers has accumulated 32 points through his first 36 holes, placing the future Hall-of-Fame field general in a four-way deadlock that includes three-time tournament winner Tony Romo.

With NBA star Steph Curry totaling 50 points to top the field after two days of competition, first place is realistically out of reach for Rodgers, but a Top 5 finish is definitely possible. The Jets' four-time NFL MVP is only 6 points behind the fifth-place score.

After climbing the leaderboard on Saturday, Rodgers can potentially finish higher than all NFL athletes (past and present) who are contesting the annual 54-hole event.

When it comes to professional gridders on the golf course, only Gold Jacket-wearing running back Marshal Faulk (37) owns a better score than Rodgers (32) heading into Sunday. Rodgers, Romo, former All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher and former MLB All-Star Mike Lowell are all five points off Faulk's pace.

Denver Broncos' legend John Elway has 31 points, sitting one spot behind Rodgers in 16th place.

In terms of current NFL quarterbacks, Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen ranks 43rd overall with 11 points.

Reigning Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes has netted only 1 point over the first two days and stands tied for 57th place.

Derek Carr, who opted to sign with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, is tied for the No. 18 slot on the individual leaderboard after tallying 28 points over 36 holes of golf.

After being plagued by inconsistency during Friday's round, Rodgers put together an impressive 18 holes on Saturday. He reduced his number of bogeys from seven down to three. The 39-year-old athlete shot par on 13 holes and recorded two birdies on the par-72 course at Edgewood Tahoe South.

The annual ACC employs a modified Stableford format with points being awarded for each hole result. The player that accumulates the most points over three days wins the title.

ACC Scoring Format:

  • 10 points: Double eagle
  • 8 points: Hole-in-one
  • 6 points: Eagle
  • 3 points: Birdie
  • 1 point: Par
  • 0 points: Bogey
  • -2 points: Double bogey or worse

Rodgers also took time to interact with fans on Saturday. In a lighthearted moment, the NBC cameras captured him signing an autograph on a pregnant woman's belly.
