Say It Ain’t So, Joe!
The Sacramento Kings have passed the unattractive status along to the New York Jets.
Ending their postseason drought late on Wednesday night, the Kings clinched a spot in the National Basketball Association Playoffs for the first time since 2006.
Sacramento’s social media team appropriately fired off a celebratory tweet to commemorate the occasion at 12:11 am ET on Thursday and another account’s subsequent response proceeded to send buzzkill vibes across none other than #JetsTwitter.
Turn On The Jets founder Joe Caporoso quote-tweeted the Kings and pointed out that the Jets now own the longest active postseason drought amongst all teams in the four major American sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL).
Yes, it’s been a long time, 12 years to be exact, since Gang Green participated in the NFL Playoffs.
It was the 2010 season and Rex Ryan was at the helm. Advancing to the AFC Championship Game for the second year in a row, the Mark Sanchez-led Jets dropped a 24-19 decision to the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 23, 2011 and the franchise has not enjoyed a playoff berth since that day.
The Jets came close to the postseason with first-year head coach Todd Bowles in 2015.
Gang Green finished that season with a 10-6 overall record, but lost a tiebreaker to the Steelers for the final AFC Wildcard spot. New York could’ve clinched a berth by beating the Buffalo Bills in Week 17, but fell, 22-17, to their AFC East rivals, who were coached by none other than Ryan at the time.
In head coach Robert Saleh’s second season, the Jets showed postseason potential before unraveling due to quarterback problems. Gang Green jumped out to a 7-4 start, but ended the 2022 regular season on a six-game slide.
