It's officially Trevor Time for the New York Jets!

The Jets will start Trevor Siemian at quarterback in their Week 16 home game against the Washington Commanders on December 24. The 31-year-old veteran will take the place of Zach Wilson, who remains in concussion protocol after leaving the Week 15 loss to Miami late in the first half.

"Zach, he will not clear the protocol, so he'll be out," said Jets' third-year head coach Robert Saleh prior to Friday's practice in Florham Park.

With Wilson having missed practice the past two days, Siemian has been preparing to take the reins come Sunday.

"At this point in my career, especially, any chances I get to play is awesome, so if it happens, I’ll be ready," said Siemian after Wednesday's practice.

The 2015 seventh-round draft pick, who has 30 career starts to his credit, has not started a regular season game since, coincidentally, facing the Jets as a member of the Chicago Bears on November 27, 2022. He went 14-of-25 passing for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 31-10 defeat at the hands of Gang Green.

"He goes out there, it’s not too big for him. He prepares really well," said Jets' offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on Thursday. "I think for the situation, for the lack of practice, he’s done a pretty good job of running the huddle. It’ll be good for him to have the reps that he’s had up to this point this week, to have a full week to be able to go out there and execute."

Siemian experienced his most success while making 14 starts for the 2016 Denver Broncos. Posting an 8-6 record, he passed for 3,401 yards to go along with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Coming on in relief of Wilson on December 17, Siemian completed 14 of 26 passes for 110 yards and was twice intercepted. Now, after a full week of prep with the first team unit, he'll try to jumpstart an offense that has totaled only 13 touchdowns through 14 games. The Jets rank last on the league leaderboard in total offense (255.1).

For his career, Siemian has completed 58.5 percent of passes for 7,203 yards and a 42:30 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He owns a 13-17 record as an NFL starting quarterback.
