Two Well-Known Veterans Land on Jets' Inactive List vs. Giants
The New York Jets designated seven players as gameday inactives on Sunday morning and it included a prominent veteran on each side of the ball.
Wide receiver Randall Cobb and defensive end Carl Lawson will not face the New York Giants in Week 8 at MetLife Stadium.
Cobb was a limited participant in practice this past week while nursing a shoulder injury. Head coach Robert Saleh said the issue stemmed from the AC joint and the 33-year-old receiver was listed as questionable to play on the injury report. Lawson, however, is a healthy scratch.
Starting right guard Joe Tippmann, who was declared out on Friday due to a quad injury, joined special teams ace Irv Charles amongst the seven inactives. Charles was designated as doubtful heading into the weekend.
Fifth-round running back Israel Abanikanda and sixth-round linebacker Zaire Barnes, two first-year players, are still waiting to make their NFL debut. Fellow rookie Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who was activated off PUP last week, is also down for Sunday's game.
Despite playing nearly 50 percent of offensive snaps up until this point, Cobb has not been a productive pass-catcher. He has three receptions on 12 targets through six games.
Meanwhile, Lawson has failed to make his presence felt on defense thus far. The 28-year-old defensive end has been up for four of the Jets' seven games, totaling only three tackles. He has been the subject of trade speculation with the NFL deadline approaching.
Elevated off the Practice Squad on Saturday, receiver Malik Taylor and offensive guard Xavier Newman will make their Jets' debuts in a game that kicks off at 1:00 pm ET on October 29 and can be seen live on CBS.
Undrafted rookie receiver Jason Brownlee, who made the 53-man roster out of training camp, is also up for the first time.
