Sauce Gardner Unboxes Special Delivery on Social Media
Sauce Gardner went live on social media Friday, but there was no flaming cheesehead this time.
Instead, the New York Jets' All-Pro cornerback joined the "unboxing" craze that has taken over YouTube in recent years.
After receiving a special delivery, Gardner logged onto Instagram where his followers helped him unbox the package. His initial thought was that the box contained the official NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year trophy that he won five months ago.
Seemingly not wanting to get his hopes up in case the case contained something else, Gardner engaged with his followers for a considerable time before the ceremonious opening. As he was polling his followers about the possible content of the package, Gardner's Instagram Live following grew exponentially with Jets' fans offering up their opinions.
One Instagram user suggested sneakers were in the box, giving Gardner a good laugh in the process, but the resounding consensus was that the DROTY hardware had finally arrived.
The package arrived in a steel briefcase with robust locks that took the lockdown cornerback a minute to figure out. His followers helped walk him through the unlocking, but then Gardner experienced some momentary anxiety since the item that was nestled within a velour pouch felt hollow and empty.

Once he removed the protective pieces and opened the bag, he was happy to unveil the beautiful gold engraved DROY trophy. Gardner appeared awestruck while examining the memento.
Gardner admitted that it was worth the five-month wait because the NFL “did they thing” with it. In a subsequent post to his feed, the charismatic cornerback said "My shorty finally here… Better late than never."
Gardner’s IG followers were vocal about placing the trophy next to his future Defensive Player of the Year trophy(s).
The Sauce Gardner fan club is adamant that the second-year pro will eventually go down as one of the best corners to play the game. There are echoes that he will be better than Hall-of-Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis. As it turns out, "Revis Island" is a fan of Gardner and the former Jet went as far to call the rising star a 2.0 version.
Time will tell how much more unboxing that Gardner will do. That nice, new DROTY trophy looks a little lonely on his mantle.
