Aaron Glenn and the Detroit Lions are close to a new contract extension.

After two seasons as the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn is reportedly close to signing a new contract extension.

According to ESPN, Glenn's extension has not been finalized, but should be in place "soon".

It is expected Glenn's new deal will be for multiple seasons, keeping the fiery coach in Motown to oversee the development of the defense.

Prior to joining the Lions before the start of the  2021 season, Glenn worked as the defensive backs coach of the Saints for five years. The former NFL defensive back also had a two-year stint with the Browns as their assistant defensive backs coach.

Glenn, 50, had an opportunity for the second consecutive season to interview for vacant NFL head coaching opportunities.

Following the conclusion of the Lions 2022 season, Glenn interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts during the hiring cycle, but did not land either job.

Even though the Lions finished with the 32nd ranked defense, there is growing confidence due to the play of the defense over the course of the final 10 games of the season

In the final 10 weeks, the team allowed 20 points or more on only four occasions.

With the emergence of James Houston and Aidan Hutchinson, it is expected the defensive line will continue their growth and consistency rushing the quarterback.

Also, it is expected the front office will prioritize adding defensive talent this offseason, as the run defense was inconsistent and faltered at crucial times.

After defeating the Bears at Ford Field, Glenn applauded the team for their ability to rebound after a tough loss to the Panthers

"You guys know, I’ve been talking about this for a long time of breaking barriers, and this was one barrier that we just haven’t had a chance to face of man, getting your (expletive) whooped by a team and how do you come back from that? Now, we lost," Glenn expressed. "We lost against Buffalo and we came back, but we got beat pretty bad (against Carolina) and man, those guys came back and they performed. To me, that shows the growth and maturity and where we’re going as a team and as an organization, so I was really proud of that.”

Head coach Dan Campbell returns both of his coordinators, as Ben Johnson also is set to return as offensive coordinator.
