Report: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs Out against Panthers
The Detroit Lions will be without Amon-Ra St. Brown Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, as an abdomen injury has forced the talented wideout to sit out.
According to ESPN, both St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, who were ruled as doubtful, are not expected to play in Week 5.
It will not be easy replacing the production of a player that has become one of the most reliable wide receivers in the NFL.
"Look, it’s not easy. When the potential of not having a guy like Saint, it makes it hard because he is, he’s a very productive, impactful player for us," said Dan Campbell. "And above all, he’s very dependable, he’s very dependable. You don’t have to worry about him being where he’s supposed to be, do the job he’s supposed to do, and that’s run and pass game."
Detroit's third-year head coach took time to recognize just how willing to block St. Brown is, doing whatever it takes to help the offense make plays.
"There’s so many things that people don’t even notice about him that he does behind the scenes, whether it’s opening up a teammate in the pass game or blocking for the running backs. He’s very productive for us.
Bold Prediction: Jameson Williams Scores Two Touchdowns
But the good news is, is that we feel like, there again, man, we’re by committee here and we’re going to use all the pieces we have, all the resources if he’s not able to go, because we’ve got enough."
Detroit will likely turn to running back David Montgomery and tight end Sam LaPorta this week, as the Panthers' defense has not been that successful defending the run.
"We’ve got (David Montgomery) D-Mo, we’ve got (Jahmyr) Gibbs, we’ve got (Sam) LaPorta, (Josh Reynolds) J-Rey, (Marvin Jones Jr.) Marv. So, we’ve got plenty here," Campbell noted. "You get (Jameson Williams) Jamo back. So look, we’ll spread that ball around, and we’ve got something for a little bit of everybody and it’s just when their number gets called, they’re got to show up. And our players have got to show up this week, man. You get the ball in your hand, you’ve got to make something happen, you’ve got to secure the football.”
