Bold Prediction: Jameson Williams Scores Two Touchdowns against Panthers

Can Jameson Williams contribute earlier than expected?

The Detroit Lions have kept expectations quite reasonable, at least publicly, for second-year wide receiver Jameson Williams.

Williams returned to practice this week after missing the team's first four games, serving what ended up being a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy.

If Williams is active and the team does not have one of the top weapons available, he could in line to score multiple touchdowns against a winless team

Head coach Dan Campbell expressed, when asked how the speedy wideout assimilated back into practice this week, "Doing a good job. Man, he’s coming right in, been one of the guys putting the work in. It’s good to have him back.”

Star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown could be unavailable this week against the Carolina Panthers, as the former fourth-round draft pick missed the entire week of practice dealing with an abdomen injury.

Should St. Brown end up inactive, the opportunity presents itself for Williams to have more of an impact than what has been discussed publicly.

Recall, his only career reception was a 41-yard touchdown grab against the Minnesota Vikings last season.

At Ford Field, playing a team that has not won a game all season could present an opportunity for Williams to be on the receiving end of deep passes.

St. Brown also noted how fast the 22-year-old looked this week in practice.

“He looks fast, explosive," St. Brown said. “I mean, his speed is something that stands out right away. You’ve got to respect it.”

The ability to quickly get behind defensive backs could make Williams an option for Jared Goff to target this week, if Ben Johnson dials up plays and gets looks that have the potential to be explosive.

“Corners and safeties, if you can’t run 4.2, you better start backing up. Because he can run 4.2. I think that just itself opens up stuff for us underneath, because you have to respect his speed," said St. Brown. “At the end of the day, you can do all types of things with him. So having him on our team back, it feels great. We’re excited. I know the coaches are, too.”
