Dan Campbell Has One Word To Describe Lions' Poor Play
Jared Goff played another mistake-filled game against the Bears Sunday. And, unlike in Week 11, there was no overcoming it this time around. The Lions dropped the Week 14 contest to their divisional rivals from the Windy City, 28-13.
Along with Goff tossing two interceptions, Ben Johnson's play-calling in the second half was suspect. Also, Detroit's offensive line, which was responsible for four penalties, failed to sufficiently protect the veteran signal-caller. Goff, in fact, was sacked four times on the afternoon.
It all contributed to yet another shoddy third-quarter performance from Dan Campbell's team.
Additionally, in the second half as a whole, the Lions had the ball seven times, and produced zero points and a measly 71 yards. And, on those seven drives, Goff & Co. did the following: punted, punted, punted, fumbled the football, turned it over on downs, turned it over on downs again and then threw an interception.
It simply wasn't Detroit's day. And, Campbell echoed the sentiment after the game.
“They played an undisciplined game over there. And, we knew that was a good team, that’s a talented team. They’re playing good football. And, we knew we had to play well, and we did not play well enough,” Campbell told reporters after the loss. “So, you know, that’s a credit to them. You know, that’s a tough pill to swallow, but it is what it is.”
The Lions committed a total of eight penalties in the NFC North divisional matchup, costing them 59 yards. It was a byproduct of the undisciplined nature of Detroit’s play Sunday.
“I thought we played hard. I thought we did some really good things at times. But, honestly, it was the discipline. I mean, the penalties cost us today,” Campbell expressed. “And, that’s really the story of the game. That’s the story of the game.”
The Lions will attempt to get back in the win column Saturday night against Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. at Ford Field.
