Detroit Lions' Rookies Set to Report to Training Camp July 21
A memo released by NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent Saturday indicates that training camps will begin on time.
For the Detroit Lions, this means rookies will be reporting to camp on Tuesday, July 21.
Following their arrival, quarterbacks and injured players are set to report on July 23, with the full team reporting on July 28.
NFL Network analyst Tom Pelissero has reported that negotiations are ongoing between the NFL and the NFL Players Association pertaining to several COVID-19 protocols.
Among the unresolved issues being discussed are how often tests are to be conducted, whether there should be preseason games at all and what a player's designation will be if a positive test occurs.
"We believe that daily testing is important, especially given some of these hotspots, and we don't right now plan on changing in that position," union president J.C. Tretter said via Patricia Traina of SI's GiantsCountry. "It doesn't mean that we won't continue to talk about it, but we were clear about our belief that daily testing is going to be necessary."
Pelissero also noted that only 20 players will be allowed in the team facility at one time, until the NFLPA agrees to infectious disease emergency response plans for each franchise.
The Lions have continued to report they will comply with all local, state and federal guidelines to keep all involved safe.
So, as it stands, training camp will start on time for the Lions.
