5 Prospects Lions Should Watch in Week 6

Five Draft prospects Lions should watch in Week 6.
In this story:

The Detroit Lions continue to be successful to begin the 2023 NFL season. They're entering Week 5 coming off a statement win over the Green Bay Packers.

The success has driven down their Draft projections. However, Brad Holmes has shown he's capable of finding talent regardless of position, as many of his Draft picks have already made impacts early in their career.

Here are five prospects the Lions should watch in Week 6:

Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka

Game: Noon vs. Maryland (FOX)

Ohio State has had a long list of talented wideouts come through its program in recent seasons. This season, the Buckeyes have two potential first round picks in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Egbuka.

While Harrison isn't expected to fall out of the top-five, Egbuka could be a more reasonable option for the Lions later in the first round. At 6-foot-1, he's not the physical specimen that his teammate Harrison is.

However, he possesses an ability to run crisp routes and is a solid separator. His footwork is superb, and he has solid hands. He has good speed and can be dangerous in the open field.

The Lions have shown they're not afraid to add talent regardless of position. Despite how good they feel about their receiving corps at season's end, Egbuka could be a player worth targeting early in the Draft.

Alabama EDGE Dallas Turner

Game: 3:30 p.m. at Texas A&M (CBS)

One of the best edge rushers in the Draft class, Turner would be a solid fit in Aaron Glenn's defensive scheme. He's strong enough to get pressure on his own, a characteristic shown by Aidan Hutchinson and company for Detroit. They got plenty of heat on Jordan Love last week despite not blitzing in the first half.

Through five games, Turner already has six sacks for the Crimson Tide. He is tied for third in pressures with 25.

Hutchinson will need a running mate moving forward. Turner may not be available late in the first round, but he could be a target for Holmes and company to move up to get.

St. Brown Doubtful, Gibbs Questionable, Branch Out against Panthers

Miami (FL) IOL Javion Cohen

Game: 8 p.m. vs. Georgia Tech (ESPN)

The Hurricanes are a surprising 5-0 after a strong start. Cohen has anchored that effort, as he has risen up the ranks of offensive linemen prospects throughout the season.

Cohen and company will try to carry their momentum into a primetime showing against Georgia Tech.

The Lions have an interesting decision to make with their current left guard, Jonah Jackson, who is a free agent at the end of the season. If the team is unable to reach an agreement with the veteran, a player like Cohen could be a prime mid-round target to develop and insert into an already talented offensive line.

Florida State LB Kalen DeLoach

Game: 3:30 p.m. vs. Virginia Tech (ESPN)

Splitting time between the WILL and middle linebacker positions, DeLoach has had a strong start to the season for the unbeaten Seminoles. He's second on the team in tackles and first in both sacks (3) and tackles for loss (4.5).

DeLoach earned a 99.0 Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade in the Seminoles last game, a thrilling win over Clemson in Week 4. In that game, he had a scoop-and-score touchdown that turned the tides of the showdown.

Coming off a bye, Florida State will look to add to their unblemished record against Virginia Tech. He's a versatile linebacker who could also fit as a potential edge rusher.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers

Game: Noon vs. Oklahoma (ABC)

The prominent game Saturday is the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry, pitting unbeaten Texas and Oklahoma against one another in what should be an exciting showdown.

Ewers is a passer worth keeping an eye on. The Lions may not be in the market for a passer, but the looming contract situation with Jared Goff creates some intrigue at the position.

The Longhorns' offense has been exciting through the early part of the season. As a result, the rivalry should be a fun watch as the talented Ewers tries to lead Texas to a second consecutive victory over the Sooners.
