Hutchinson Top-Graded Lion in Week 5, Goff No. 1 PFF QB in NFL
The Detroit Lions have proved their roster is deep enough to weather a certain amount of injuries, even ones to key players.
Even without Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs on Sunday, the Lions were able to move the football and score at will against a retooling Panthers team.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell indicated that the team is confident enough to continue playing at a high level, despite being without key parts of its operation.
"Is that a concern of mine? Anytime you lose a guy like Saint, it hurts. But that’s where – look (Lions RB David Montgomery), 'D-Mo' has been an excellent addition for us. I mean, he fits us, he fits us like a glove. His style of running and what he’s able to do in screen game, pass game, but man, his running style," Campbell said. "But, then having (Lions WR Kalif Raymond) 'Leaf’s' versatility, Leaf helps us in the slot. (Lions TE Sam) LaPorta has come on once again. He just continues to get better and better, and so we just spread the ball around a little bit more. And, the guys when their number gets called, they’re making plays for us, and as long as that happens, as long as you start giving guys opportunities, other opportunities, because you don’t have a guy like 'Saint' there, you can overcome. We were able to do that today.
"So, look, it was a great job by (Lions offensive coordinator) Ben (Johnson). I mean, the gameplan was outstanding, and to me, going into this game, we needed to play outstanding defense," Campbell explained further. "In my mind, defense and special teams was going to really set the tone today, and the offense took advantage of those takeaways we got. So, defense set the tone, but the offense did. Went well above, and did their part. So, it was just a great team win.”
Through five weeks, Jared Goff is the NFL's top PFF-graded quarterback, with a mark of 90.6. Aidan Hutchinson is on pace to record 119 pressures, after recording 35 through the first five games.
