Campbell: Jameson Williams Has 'Earned' Increased Targets

Williams has earned the ability to be more involved.

Jameson Williams has been a bolt of energy for the Detroit Lions at times this season.

Against New Orleans in Week 13, he dazzled with his speed on a fourth-quarter touchdown run. He also had a superb touchdown catch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.

This season, Williams has recorded 13 catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns through nine games.

However, he has yet to catch more than two passes in a game. His season-high in targets was six against Baltimore, which marks the only other game outside of Sunday's in which he has not had a catch.

Against the Bears, he did not catch a pass, and he had just one carry. His lone target was a deep pass from Jared Goff that fell incomplete.

Moving into a Saturday night matchup with Denver, Lions coach Dan Campbell said the young wide receiver has earned the ability to get more targets.

"Yeah, we'll keep working with him. He's improving, he's improving, so we'll keep working to find some different ways to get him more involved," Campbell explained. "Because he is, he's putting the work in. He's improving, but he's really no different than 'Saint,' keep finding ways to get Saint more involved. Reynolds did some good things, find a way to get him involved. Look, we're gonna do what's best for us and ask our guys to do things they do well. So, yeah, absolutely, he's earned that. So, we're gonna keep working at it."

It was a dreary day all around for Detroit's passing game. Goff threw for a season-low 161 passing yards, while the team's top receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown, had just three catches on nine targets.
