Jameson Williams Leaves Practice Early
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams pulled up grabbing his hamstring while running a deep route, and left practice early Wednesday. He walked to the locker room under his own power, and did not return.
The Alabama product has dealt with a turbulent start to his NFL career, with injuries limiting his rookie year and now a six-game suspension to begin 2023. As a result, all reps are critical for his development.
He missed multiple days during the first week of camp with a leg injury, as well as a Saturday practice while dealing with a personal matter.
"Last year, I couldn't even be out there," Williams said Monday. "I was on the side, doing my own drills and things like that. But, I feel like I've made progress every day. That's the goal, though, to make progress every day, get better every day. It's either you get better or you get worse. So, (I) just try to get better every day."
To make matters worse, top receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown also left practice early Wednesday. He was observed working with trainers throughout practice, and had his ankle taped.
Later, he was seen jogging in the end-zone area, in an effort to work off the set-back. The receiver didn't leave the field, but his on-field work ended early.
As a result, the Lions were forced to complete their first day of joint practices against the Jacksonville Jaguars without two of their top receiving options.
The two teams will square off for joint practices once again Thursday, before playing in a nationally televised preseason game Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Ford Field, and the game will air on the NFL Network.
