Jared Goff Has Not Thought about Potential Record Streak

Detroit's starting quarterback is focused on winning at all costs.
In this story:

By avoiding an interception Thursday night, Jared Goff has moved into third place all-time for consecutive passes without an interception.

He has now thrown 359 consecutive times without a pick, an impressive streak that has directly translated to Detroit Lions victories. The team has won nine of the 11 games during which the streak has been active.

However, this achievement is not weighing on the mind of the veteran passer.

"I haven't thought about it once," Goff said. "It's cool, it's a cool thing, I'll look back on it one day. But, if you told me it kept going and we lost games, I don't care. I'm just trying to win games, and that being a part of that formula, sure, it's helped. But, it's not, by any means, a focus."

He attributed his sterling decision-making and awareness to improved maturity and experience. There's luck involved, as well, as fortunate bounces have played a part in avoiding turnovers.

The offense has had many players step up during Detroit's recent winning ways. That was no different Thursday, as players such as Josh Reynolds and David Montgomery spurred the offense late in the game.

"Just maturing, getting older, maturing. Getting comfortable with our system, sure," the veteran quarterback said. "Knowing when those moments are and showing up, I think that's what good teams do. You find guys, every week, you'll have a different guy step up. This week, it'll be no different if we're able to find a way to win, someone's gonna have to step up that you're not expecting and make a play. And, it tends to happen that way."

Alim McNeill appears on Ford Field marquee

Defensive tackle Alim McNeill is viewed as a key player for the Lions' success, as he begins his third season.

The organization views him as vital, and this was evidenced by the decision to put his image on the marquee at Ford Field to promote the 2023 season.

This is emblematic of his increased role within the organization as both a key player and a vocal leader of the Lions' defense.

"Sheila (Hamp) just told that as well. I thought she was joking with me. I've gotta go see it myself," McNeill said. "But, no, I can't really wrap my head around it. I've been put in that position a couple times during camp, to be that leader, be that guy. That's something I've wanted to do, wanted to be."
