Lions Injury Updates: 'Outside Shot' Decker Plays, Moseley Likely Out
The Detroit Lions will likely be without offensive tackle Taylor Decker in their home opener Sunday. The veteran has been dealing with an ankle injury suffered in the regular season opener at Kansas City.
Head coach Dan Campbell indicated that Decker was improving, but did not offer a promising outlook for the left tackle to play.
"Deck, he's a little less than questionable," Dan Campbell said. "We'll just see where he's at tomorrow. He is getting better, so that's all encouraging."
This will likely lead to Penei Sewell moving from right to left tackle, with Matt Nelson sliding in on the right side. Nelson beat out veteran Germain Ifedi to be the team's backup tackle behind Decker and Sewell.
Elsewhere, Emmanuel Moseley will likely miss his second consecutive game after not practicing throughout the week. Already recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season, Moseley has been listed on the injury report with both a knee and hamstring injury.
"Same thing with E-Man, I don't see him playing this week, but he's getting better," Campbell explained.
Jerry Jacobs will likely get another start. Last week against Kansas City, he finished with a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 56.2 after allowing Patrick Mahomes to go 5-for-8 for 21 yards and a score in his direction.
Cornerback Khalil Dorsey, who handled kick return duties for the Lions in Week 1, has also missed each of the week's practices with an illness.
Dropped interceptions
Last week, an interception by Brian Branch played a vital part in the Lions' comeback victory. However, they weren't pleased with only getting one.
Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn knows the team missed plenty of opportunities to come away with more turnovers. That's why, entering this week, he plans to focus on the details in an effort to generate turnovers against Seattle.
"We'll do a lot of ball drills going into this week to make sure we can catch those balls, but that's one of the things we try to do week in and week out, is make sure that we take the ball away," Glenn said. "That's one of our — that's part of our identity like I said before, so we have to come away with those."
Notes
1.) It is expected that blue ski masks will be allowed into the stadium but must not be worn into the stadium. Any fan attending the game and planning to wear one should only put it on after passing through security successfully and entering Ford Field.
2.) Josh Paschal suffered an injury at practice Thursday. Campbell indicated the young defensive lineman could be sidelined for a period of time due to the injury.
