The return of wideout Trinity Benson to the Detroit Lions did not last long.

After being brought back and signed to the active roster, Benson left the Chicago Bears game with a knee injury.

On Friday, the team announced the 25-year-old wideout has been placed on the injured reserve list, leaving one roster spot open ahead of the team's Week 11 matchup against the New York Giants.

Last year, Lions general manager Brad Holmes traded a fifth-round pick and a seventh-round pick to the Broncos for Benson, a player who excelled in the preseason.

Benson only secured 10 receptions for 103 yards in his first campaign in Motown.

He was then waived by the Lions prior to the start of the 2022 season.

With several wideouts dealing with injuries, including Josh Reynolds and DJ Chark, Holmes decided to bring the young wideout back to Detroit, signing him off of the Broncos' practice squad.

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson explained his perception of how the team has addressed multiple players going down with injuries.

"It doesn’t matter who we have out there, linemen that we weren’t expecting to play during training camp or starting for us. That’s not a problem," said Johnson. "Receivers, same thing, they’re stepping up, they’re doing their jobs, they’re executing. Everyone understands their role going into a game, and so I think that’s why we’ve had the success that we’ve had. And, we’ve got to continue to focus in on the details to have even more success offensively.”
