2023 Lions Practice Squad Tracker, Waiver Claims

The Lions are 18th in the NFL waiver wire order.
In this story:

The Detroit Lions will now turn their attention to creating their 16-man practice squad.

After the initial 53-man roster was established, the team will look to fill the spots with several players who spent training camp in Detroit.

Head coach Dan Campbell, when asked why the practice squad the past couple of seasons did not have much turnover, indicated the value of having 16 players who have experience in the system and an understanding of what the coaching staff is looking for.

Also, the team has been able to insert several players from the practice squad into the active roster when unforeseen injuries have popped up.

Recall, James Houston spent the majority of the 2022 season developing, giving him the opportunity to perform at a high level when he was activated against the Buffalo Bills.

It is expected that several players who spent the last month in Motown could find opportunities elsewhere, as the level of talent on Detroit's roster has been elevated.

Detroit's front office could look to make trades or add players from other teams to the roster over the next 24 hours.

Players that were waived must pass through the waiver-wire process, which Detroit currently sits at 18th.

That order is determined by the previous year's record.

Here is the current 2023 waiver order.

  1. Chicago Bears
  2. Houston Texans
  3. Arizona Cardinals
  4. Indianapolis Colts
  5. Denver Broncos
