The Detroit Lions signed wide receiver Trey Quinn and waived wide receiver Tom Kennedy, the team announced Friday.

Quinn was the 2018 NFL Draft's "Mr. Irrelevant," as Washington picked him with the final selection. He spent two seasons with the organization, before playing one game with Jacksonville in 2020.

In those two seasons with Washington, he hauled in 35 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns.

Most recently, he bounced around on practice squads, before signing with the USFL's Michigan Panthers. He caught 37 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns with the Panthers this past season

The SMU product finished second on the Panthers in receiving yards.

He takes Kennedy's place, who was waived while injured. The veteran wideout has been a fan favorite, particularly for his stellar performance during the 2022 preseason.

Quinn played collegiately at LSU for two seasons, before transferring to SMU. His first three seasons saw him catch a total of just seven passes, but he bursted out with a 114-catch, 1,236-yard performance during his final season with the Mustangs.

The Lions have a need for depth at the position. It has been depleted early in camp, as Jameson Williams missed practice Friday and Marvin Jones remains on the NFI list.

Detroit recently added Denzel Mims to the receivers room, in a trade with the New York Jets.

The Lions are set to open the preseason Aug. 11 against the New York Giants. They will have two joint practice sessions with their opponent, leading up to the game.
