Lions Will Face Buccaneers in Divisional Round
The Detroit Lions now know who their next opponent will be in the divisional round of the playoffs.
After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles at home, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will now head to Ford Field Sunday to face a Lions team riding high after its first postseason victory in 32 years.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed during his Monday media session that the coaching staff would begin to examine film on the Eagles, as the team previously played Tampa Bay earlier this season.
“Yeah, I think, well, for us, we’re onto Philly a little bit only because we have – we played Tampa, so we have an idea," said Campbell. "We have things that we know about them, and so just take a peek at Philly, so that at least we’re – we somewhat have a head start, but we’re not all in. And, it’s really going to be more on we’ve got to see what happens tonight.”
Detroit's third-year head coach expressed that coaches can gleam "good nuggets" of information watching two potential opponents face off against each other.
“Yeah, I think you get a benefit from watching it every way you can watch it," said Campbell. "The feed that we have, the different cut-up feeds that we have, but also the TV copy. I think you can always find pretty good nuggets.”
Earlier this season, Detroit was able to defeat Tampa Bay, 20-6, at Raymond James Stadium.
Wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown was unstoppable on third down in the defensive battle, and Jameson Williams helped to extend Detroit's lead in the third quarter with a deep touchdown grab.
Detroit's divisional round playoff game with Tampa Bay is set to kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Lions got the chance to host their second straight playoff game due to the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Green Bay Packers.
