Odds Lions Beat Raiders in Week 8
On Monday night at Ford Field, the Lions will look to bounce back from a devastating Week 7 defeat at the hands of the Ravens. Detroit will attempt to do so against the Josh McDaniels-led Raiders, which sit at 3-4 and in second place in the AFC West headed into Week 8.
This marks the Lions' first Monday Night Football game since September 2021. In the contest, Detroit was blown out by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at Lambeau Field, 35-17.
These Lions are definitely better than the 2021 version, which finished 3-13-1 in head coach Dan Campbell's first year at the helm. Yet, this iteration of the team, which had won four in a row prior to Week 7, is also due for a clunker here and there. Just take a look at Detroit's 38-6 blowout loss in Baltimore a week ago.
I don't think the Lions, which sit atop the NFC North standings at 5-2, will allow such a dismal performance to occur again, though.
"They just kicked our ass,” left tackle Taylor Decker said, after Detroit's lackluster effort against the Ravens. “It is what it is, but it’s not going to change what we’re about. Obviously, we’ve got a lot to clean up. We’ll see what the film says, ultimately, but that’s not going to change the mentality of this team. It’s a 17-game season. It’s one game. You hate to have those games, but even Coach (Campbell) said at some point, it was going to be inevitable that we were going to stumble. We could’ve stumbled in a win, but we stumbled in a loss, which is embarrassing.”
As for the Raiders, they're similarly looking to rebound from a blowout loss – a 30-12 defeat. For Las Vegas, it came against the Bears, which had just one win prior to the Week 7 tilt.
WR Tom Kennedy Visits Lions
To make matters worse, the Raiders dropped the contest with Justin Fields sidelined for Chicago. In Fields' place, undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent, hailing from Division II school Shepherd University, started for the Bears. Las Vegas allowed the unheralded first-year quarterback to complete 21-of-29 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. It was an embarrassing defeat for McDaniels & Co.
As a whole, the Raiders don't do anything incredibly well, either. Through seven weeks, they rank 30th in points per game (16.0 points/game), and have allowed the 11th-most points per contest (23.0).
Also, Jimmy Garoppolo, the Raiders' veteran signal-caller, might not be able to suit up on Monday night. He's dealing with a back injury that he suffered in Week 6 against the Patriots.
To me, Detroit's Week 8 matchup with Las Vegas is shaping up to be a great opportunity for Campbell's squad to get back on track. I believe it will, and at this present juncture, I'll give the Lions a 75 percent chance to secure the win on Monday Night Football.
