One Change Could Spark Lions' Offense against Seahawks

The Detroit Lions need a spark offensively.

Against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Detroit Lions' offense was only able to muster up 14 points.

Detroit's offense struggled to extend drives. Their third-down efficiency (33.3%) left a lot to be desired.

“We just didn’t play our best ball today," said Jared Goff. "We kind of got away with one in some ways, but that’s what good teams do. When you don’t play your best, but you find a way in the fourth quarter to get a stop on defense, to get a first down on offense, to make those catches that Josh Reynolds made and be able to score on that long drive we had. That’s what we’re starting to become now and it’s a good feeling.”

One change that could positively impact the offense is inserting rookie Antoine Green into the lineup.

Veteran Marvin Jones played 56 percent of offensive snaps, while Green did not see the field at all.

A slight reduction in Jones' playing time could spark the deep passing game as the Lions' offense looks to correct issues that made the game against the Chiefs challenging.

Recall, Green has solid speed and a debut at home against the Seahawks could provide offensive coordinator Ben Johnson an additional weapon to open up the passing game with the Seahawks visiting Ford Field.

Green earned a 74.0 overall Pro Football Focus offensive grade for his performance in the preseason.

In those three games, he caught seven passes for 151 yards and a score.

Playing in close games

Veteran Kalif Raymond indicated postgame that head coach Dan Campbell has done a stellar job of preparing the team to play in tight contests.

“Those are football games in the NFL and that’s what you prepared for. I think DC (Dan Campbell) did a great job of preparing us for those moments," said Raymond. "Even when it’s like that, you know it’s a battle. I was telling (Jahmyr Gibbs), we were sitting on the sideline, that you would be surprised how many of these NFL games come down to the wire, and that was in the third quarter. It was cool we were able to do that today.”
