What They're Saying: Teddy Bridgewater Reacts to Joint Practice
Here is a collection of what was said on Day 15 of Detroit Lions training camp.
Marvin Jones Jr.
On the environment of playing his former team: “The environment is great. It’s hard to not be like, after every play, ‘Hey, what up bro?’ They’re having full conversations, and I’m like, ‘Hey, I gotta get in the huddle.’ But no, it’s fun to see them. Obviously, we’ve been through a lot over there and integrate there. I’ve been here, too, and it’s the same. Just good to be around.”
Parallels between Jacksonville and Detroit’s current trajectories: “Well, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen a lot of parallels last year, after we came here and they whipped our butts. I don’t think we lost another game, you know, and vice versa. We were going on a trajectory at the same time. So, definitely similar, and I think both (teams) are going to be successful.”
Aidan Hutchinson
On joint practices: “Obviously, joint practices are very situational and circumstantial. But, you can kind of feel where you’re at in them. But again, those live game reps are just always a little bit different.”
On Lions' defensive line depth: “Yeah, man. We’ve got a lot of young guys and guys who are eager to go out there and hit someone. And, that’s what’s most important, and that’s what we have this year.”
C.J. Gardner-Johnson
On whether playing more traditional safety has affected him: "I like playing football. I love playing football."
On his relationship with Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley: "Me and Cal go back, 7-on-7 in high school. I'm glad he's back. One of the best receivers in the game. All respect. Like I said, we go back, we're from Florida. It's no animosity between us, it's always competition, if you know how Florida players get down. I'm happy he's back. It just uplifts everybody's game, when there's a player of that caliber on the field. Not just me."
Teddy Bridgewater
On his first few days in Detroit: "It feels great. Young talent, guys flying around. 'JG' (Jared Goff) dotting, it's fun watching. I've always been on the other side of it. So, to watch him, see how he prepares his day, attacks his day and comes out here, transitions to the field, I'm just happy to be in that room for those guys."
On how he's adjusting to his role in Detroit: "It's honestly been a great experience so far, and honestly, I'm just bringing whatever from the different rooms that I've been in. Of course, I spent those two years with (Drew) Brees and then from my playing experience. There might be a situation that we get into in the season where JG might not have been in, or we get in a situation that I might not have been in and I'll lean on other guys in the room. It's honestly been a great experience, great opportunity just to be around these guys. Guys who love ball. Starts up top, and trickles down to the coaches, to the players. You can tell that all these guys love ball, and they're focused on what's most important."
David Montgomery
On what’s good about Ben Johnson: “He’s very versatile. Some of the things he calls, it’s amazing some of the situations we get put in, and how we kind of come out of it or how he thinks and how he draws things up. He’s definitely versatile, and he’s a good OC to play for.”
On No. 3 running back battle: “Everybody in there is competing, all the way from the top to the bottom. Everybody, whenever they’re in there, whatever chance they have to put themselves on a higher pedestal, they definitely try to rise to the occasion. And, we all do a good job of challenging each other and competing, so that we can be the best version of ourselves every day. So, that’s really what it’s about, just competing and challenging each other to be better than we were the day before."
