Packers Finalize 2023 Preseason Schedule
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers’ 2023 schedule is set. So is the three-game preseason, a challenging set of opponents that should help get the team get ready for a historic season with Jordan Love replacing Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.
Week 1: at Cincinnati Bengals
Friday, Aug. 11, 6 p.m.
A year after reaching the Super Bowl, the Bengals went 12-4 last season. They trounced Buffalo in the divisional round before losing at Kansas City on the final play of the AFC Championship Game. Coach Zac Taylor did not play his key players in last year’s preseason.
Week 2: New England Patriots
Saturday, Aug. 19, 7 p.m.
The Patriots finished 8-9 last season, including an overtime loss at Lambeau Field in Week 4. Coach Bill Belichick played his top players for about a quarter in last year’s second exhibition.
Week 3: Seattle Seahawks
Saturday, Aug. 26, noon
The Seahawks faded down the stretch but snuck into the playoffs with a 9-8 record after the Packers lost the finale to the Lions. Coach Pete Carroll played his No. 1 offense for one series in last year’s preseason finale.
All three games will air on the Packers TV Network; no games are set for a live, national broadcast.
Rodgers hadn’t played in a preseason since tossing four passes in 2018. It will be different with Love.
“You’ve got to throw as much at him as humanly possible,” coach Matt LaFleur said at the NFL meetings in March. “We might have to take a little different approach in how we address the preseason and those games.
“Certainly, Jordan doesn’t have a lot of game reps, so you want to give him as much as possible. I would say our whole situation is going to be very fluid in terms of you’ve got to stay one step ahead of the game and what needs in order for him to develop the way we want him to develop.”
Last year, the Packers hosted the New Orleans Saints for joint practices before hosting them for the second preseason game. Similarly, the Packers will host the Patriots for joint practices this summer.
The Packers will kick off the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Chicago Bears. Their home opener will be played two weeks later against the New Orleans Saints.
