Next-Team Odds for Rodgers Take Predictable Flip

As expected following a wild day of news, the New York Jets are huge favorites to be Aaron Rodgers' next team. Here are the latest odds.
In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The New York Jets, predictably, are the commanding favorite to acquire Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, according to new odds posted by a pair of offshore sportsbooks on Wednesday morning.

At SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline.ag, the Jets are -300 to be Rodgers’ landing spot in a potential trade. The Las Vegas Raiders, who had been the favorite for more than a month, have fallen to +300.

The Miami Dolphins have emerged as the darkhorse contender at +600. The Tennessee Titans are lurking at +900. Everybody else – the San Francisco 49ers at +1800, the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots at +2500, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +3300 – are extreme longshots.

The changes have been rapid. On Feb. 8, the Raiders were -300 and the Jets were +200. On Monday, even though the Raiders had signaled they weren’t interested, they were still the favorite at -200 with the Jets at +140.

Then came Tuesday’s developments. With the news that Rodgers and the Jets had spoken and Rodgers was “open” to going to New York, the Jets’ odds shortened to -125. The Raiders, who had been the favorite since Davante Adams made his public push for Rodgers at the Pro Bowl, were -120.

At that point, the bet was basically a coin flip before it was taken down by both sportsbooks. The bet returned on Wednesday morning, and it's not close to a coin flip. By implied probability, there is a 75 percent likelihood that Rodgers’ next team will be the Jets compared to 25 percent for the Raiders.

The Jets have put on a full-court press for Rodgers. Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was hired this offseason for that same role in New York, was among the contingent that flew to California for face-to-face meetings with Rodgers.

Those meetings showed the Packers were not only willing to trade Rodgers but that trade talks had either sufficiently advanced or were complete. The only thing left was selling Rodgers on joining a new team. His bond with Hackett, along with the Jets’ powerful defense and impressive rookie playmakers, no doubt was attractive.
