The Green Bay Packers may not be done tinkering with their quarterback room. On the eve of training camp, they worked out Jacob Eason on Tuesday.

Jordan Love is clearly entrenched as the team's starter. Barring a major injury, nothing that happens between now and the start of the season is going to change that.

Last week, the Packers signed former USFL MVP Alex McGough, adding to the competition between Danny Etling and fifth-round pick Sean Clifford to be the primary backup.

Despite the addition, the Packers could use more experience in their quarterback room. None of the aforementioned quarterbacks have thrown a pass in a regular-season game.

Eason has thrown 10, splitting time in his young career between Carolina and Indianapolis. He threw five passes and one interception with both teams.

Despite not having gaudy stats, he at least has experience in an NFL game within the last two years. None of the quarterbacks on the roster could say that.

Eason entered the NFL with a big arm coming out of Washington. He started his collegiate career at Georgia before injuring his left knee. Jake Fromm took the job from there and never looked back.

Whether the Packers sign him or not is still up for debate. If they did, they would likely release one of their other quarterbacks. It's tough enough to get enough reps for the four guys on the roster; having five would be overkill.

That's especially true in an offseason in which coach Matt LaFleur has said Love cannot get enough reps. Maybe in the past, there were more snaps to go around for the backup quarterbacks because Aaron Rodgers didn't need as many to get ready for the season.

Love is inexperienced. He'll need as many reps as possible during practice and perhaps preseason games.
