Sportsbooks Set Over/Under on Packers’ 2023 Win Total

“I think we all have to temper our expectations for him,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said of Jordan Love on Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings.
In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers went 8-9 in what appears to be the doomed final season in Titletown for legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

How many wins will the Packers finish with in 2023 with Jordan Love taking over at quarterback?

DraftKings Sportsbook released its projected win totals on Monday. Green Bay’s was 7.5.

At Bet Online, Green Bay’s opening total is seven wins. Last year, with the Packers coming off a third consecutive 13-win season but having traded Davante Adams, the mark was 10.5 wins.

For what it’s worth, when Rodgers replaced Brett Favre in 2008, Green Bay went from 13-3 and a trip to the NFC Championship Game in 2007 to 6-10 in Rodgers’ debut season. Green Bay lost seven of eight games in one stretch, with six of those outcomes by four points or less.

Playing through an injured throwing shoulder sustained in Week 4, Rodgers threw for 4,038 yards with 28 touchdowns vs. 13 interceptions. His 93.8 passer rating wound up being the third-worst of his 15 seasons as the starter.

Having to follow in the footsteps of two Hall of Fame quarterbacks will be no easy task for Love, which might be why coach Matt LaFleur tried to lower the Year 1 expectations.

“We’re excited about Jordan and how he’s been able to progress as a quarterback, how he’s matured as a man,” LaFleur told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix on Tuesday morning. “It’s going to be a different role for him, certainly, and I think we all have to temper our expectations for him.

“It’s different when you’re going into a game vs. when you’re a starting game. It’s going to be a process but it’s going to be exciting for him, for us. I don’t think any quarterback can truly do it on their own in this league. It’s going to be everybody rallying around him and trying to play at their best ability so that he can go out there and perform as good as he possibly can.”

In the NFC North, the win totals are 9.5 for the Detroit Lions, 8.5 for the Minnesota Vikings and 7.5 for the Packers and Chicago Bears. At Bet Online, it’s 9.5 for Detroit, 8.5 for Minnesota, 7.5 for Chicago and seven for Green Bay.

At SI Sporstbook, the Packers opened at +2800 to win the Super Bowl. That’s where they remain, even with the change at quarterback.

If you’re bullish on the Packers, there are better values to be found elsewhere. They are +5000 at SuperBook and BetMGM, and +4000 at PointsBet and FanDuel.

What about the New York Jets? With Rodgers presumably taking over as their starting quarterback, they opened at 9.5 wins at both sportsbooks. They are +1400 to win the Super Bowl at SI Sportsbook, odds in line with other sportsbooks.

At FanDuel, Rodgers’ over/unders are 4,000.5 passing yards and 29.5 passing touchdowns. Rodgers is +1600 to win MVP while Love is +3000.
