Jason McIntyre Conveniently Leaves Out Rushing Stats in Cam vs. Dak Debate
Cam Newton is arguably the best rushing quarterback in NFL history. And when his name pops up in quarterback debates, folks often forget that part of the game such as Jason McIntyre did while filling in for Colin Cowherd on The Herd.
McIntyre went on this rant in response to Newton calling Prescott, among others "game managers."
"Cam Newton, you had a worse career than Dak Prescott. And we got a great staff here at The Herd and they were able to pull up some stats. Let's just take a glance, shall we? Look at these numbers. Is that not shocking to you that Dak has had a better career than Cam? Now Cam won an MVP, obviously. He went to a Super Bowl, but Dak Prescott...look at the numbers. The numbers don't lie. Dak Prescott has had a better career and more consistent and you know, you're not really great until you're consistent."
Of course, the graphic that they threw up on the screen did not include the rushing totals for either quarterback. Running the ball, as previously mentioned, was a big part of Cam's career. What's even more hilarious about this little skit is McIntyre contradicted himself by openly noting Cam's MVP and Super Bowl appearance - something Dak Prescott have yet to achieve.
The other part of this debate that he fails to mention is the surrounding pieces each quarterback had throughout their respective careers. Newton had no where near the same level of weapons at receiver that Prescott has worked with in Dallas. Not to mention, the Cowboys have had one of the best offensive lines in the league since Prescott has been in the league. Winning in Carolina is a whole heck of a lot harder than winning in Dallas and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Personally, I don't think either quarterback is necessarily better than the other. They both have different strengths and are both good in their own way. I'm just flabbergasted by the take that Dak is supposedly far and away better than Cam because that's not how I see it. If anything, they're fairly comparable.
