NFL.com Names Four Panthers Who Should Be on the Trade Block

Will Carolina make a move ahead of October 31st?

The NFL's trade deadline is just around the corner and with the Panthers sitting at 0-6 and limited draft capital, they could use this opportunity to move on from some valuable pieces to replenish some of the picks they've traded away over the years.

In a recent article on NFL.com, Kevin Patra suggests the Panthers should be willing to listen/propose trades involving four players - OLB Brian Burns, S Jeremy Chinn, LB Frankie Luvu, WR Terrace Marshall Jr.

"Change is already on its way in Carolina, with coach Frank Reich handing over play-calling duties to OC Thomas Brown. More could be coming for the winless Panthers heading toward the trade deadline. Without a first-round pick and currently holding just six total selections in 2024, Carolina should look to replenish now. Brian Burns, who is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, would be the biggest trade chip. While moving the pass rusher would be a significant dent to the Panthers’ D, it could be their best way to recoup a high pick. Frankie Luvu and Jeremy Chinn also have expiring deals, although Chinn's reported injury likely kills his trade value. Terrace Marshall Jr., a 2021 second-round pick, has not been productive despite the Panthers’ limited receiver corps, catching just 16 passes entering Week 7."

Prior to Chinn's injury, I thought he would be the most likely asset to be moved at the deadline. He's appeared in just 52% of all defensive snaps this season which is significantly down from his previous three seasons where he was over 90%.

Moving Terrace Marshall Jr. makes sense to me. He hasn't lived up to the expectations of a second-round pick and has been fighting for playing time in what is considered to be a weak receiver room. His skill set and age should still attract a few teams around the league.

In regard to Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns, I don't think the Panthers can afford to move on from either of them. As I stated last week, trading away Burns likely means the first-round pick you get in return will be toward the back end of the round. Even if it's not, it's going to be difficult to find a can't-miss talent that can replace his production. Luvu isn't worth a first-round pick but he's one of the most active linebackers in the league. There's no need to completely tear this thing down.
