Panthers Get WR Jerry Jeudy in CBS Sports Mock Trade

Will Carolina be looking to add talent at the trade deadline?

As the trade deadline nears, the Carolina Panthers will be a team that many expect to make a move. Carolina is thin on draft picks and could certainly use a few more after dealing away their 2024 first-round pick as part of the trade to move up and get Bryce Young.

Although I and many others expect Carolina will be sellers at the deadline, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports proposes that the Panthers send a fourth and fifth-round pick in next year's draft to the Denver Broncos in exchange for wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

"A year after Kadarius Toney was dealt for a three and a six, Jeudy could be the next mercurial first-rounder to relocate. While he represents Denver's only legit long-term WR prospect at 24, he's failed to hit his stride through three-and-a-half seasons. The Panthers desperately need younger help around QB Bryce Young. Imagine the irony if Jeudy joins Steve Smith's old squad."

If you are unsure of the "feud" with Steve Smith Sr., Jeudy felt some sort of way by comments Smith had of him in the past. Before Denver's game with Washington, Smith Sr. got his feelings about it off his chest.

"The word that I've used in the past to describe him is a JAG - 'Just a Guy'. And so, when I saw him, he's playing well and I wanted to say to him face to face like hey, I know I said some things in the past that I probably shouldn't have and I'm sorry. That's what I wanted to say to him. His response was 'I don't mess with you'. So I'll say it again, I'm sorry that I said you were a JAG, who is an average wide receiver that they used a first-round pick on that isn't doing anything. I actually hope that you show up today in a way that you haven't showed up in the last couple years since they drafted you. So if you ever got a problem with Agent 89, I'm sorry for saying that you're an average wide receiver that they will eventually move on [from]."

He also mentioned that if teams called him to ask for his opinion about trading for him, Smith would tell them no. So, no, I don't see Carolina will make a deal for Jeudy and no, it's not just because Agent 89 says not to.

The Panthers need to add draft capital, not continue to give it away. If it's one pick? Maybe. Even then, you're rolling the dice on a guy who has simply not lived up to expectations and are asking him to be your No. 1 option at receiver. It just doesn't seem like a trade worth making if you ask me.
