Reich 'Still Evaluating' Who Will Call the Offense vs. Dallas
Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich has not publicly committed to continuing with Thomas Brown as the team's offensive play-caller heading into a Week 11 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
"Have not totally dialed that in yet," Reich stated. "Pretty much as I've said, we've been collaborative in much of what we do. I'm still evaluating the whole thing and how it's actually going to function. I'm really just thinking the whole thing through. First of all, however we've done the play-calling, we haven't performed as an offense. As I look toward the last half of the season, what's the best dynamic? And why? Any decision that's ultimately made is going to be based just on that one pure factor."
In the three games that Brown has called the shots, the Panthers' offense is averaging five less points per game, 23.7 fewer passing yards, 23 fewer rushing yards, and QB Bryce Young has tossed two touchdowns to three interceptions compared to six touchdowns and four interceptions with Reich calling it.
The numbers don't seem that far off but for an offense that was already struggling, any dip in production is going to be magnified. For a team that is 1-8 and most likely 1-9 after Sunday, no job is safe, including Frank Reich's. If and probably when Carolina drops to 1-9, the conversation of Reich being on the hot seat will only intensify. And for a guy that has called plays for his entire head coaching career minus three games, he's going to feel like his best chance to remain in the head coaching seat is to regain control of the play-calling duties.
