CBS Sports Excludes Bryce Young from 1st Round of 2023 Re-Draft

From first overall to out of the first round?
In this story:

Bryce Young didn't have a fun first year with the Carolina Panthers, getting sacked 62 times over the course of a 2-15 season. But as the narrative often goes, quarterbacks receive too much credit when things go well and receive too much blame when things don't.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports recently published an article re-drafting the 2023 class. As expected, he pegged C.J. Stroud to the Panthers first overall.

"The Panthers correct their mistake with Stroud over Bryce Young in this redraft. If this redraft occurred, this pick would be made in a split second."

Again, no surprise considering the year he had. But as you scroll your way down the page you'll notice that Young's name does not appear. Trapasso has Young falling completely out of the first round.

This is a bit of an overreaction from Young's rookie campaign - a year in which he threw for 2,877 yards and 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. There's no denying that the numbers don't exactly jump off the page, but we can't completely dismiss the lack of help he had around him. Not to mention, all the drama he had to overcome from within the building. The play-calling duties were tossed back-and-forth like a hot potato and he saw his head coach and position coach get canned mid-season.

Through all the bad, you could still see glimpses of the player the Panthers hope Young can ultimately become. He's extremely intelligent and more often than not, he knew where to go with the football. It just may have not felt that way because he was constantly running for his life. Even with the not-so-great first year in the league, the talent, IQ, and potential should still equate to that of a first round selection.
