Former Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater Set to Retire

A new chapter will begin for the veteran NFL QB here soon.
In this story:

NFL veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is retiring at the end of this season, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Back in 2020, the Carolina Panthers began their rebuild under first-year head coach Matt Rhule and that offseason, they wanted to find a new quarterback as they were set to let Cam Newton walk.

They landed on Teddy Bridgewater, who came off a strong season with the New Orleans Saints where he led the team to a 5-0 record during Drew Brees' absence. For the year, he threw for 1,384 yards and nine touchdowns and completed passes at a 67.9% clip. That production led to a three-year, $63 million deal with Carolina.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned and Carolina cut bait just one year into the deal. In his lone season with the Panthers, Bridgewater threw for 3,733 yards and 15 touchdowns to 11 interceptions while completing 69% of his passes.

Since leaving Carolina, Bridgewater has played for three teams in as many years - Denver, Miami, and now, Detroit.

He did get his small measure of revenge against Carolina (sort of) by completing 13-of-22 pass attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown in a preseason game earlier this year.
