'WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?' Luke Combs Distraught Over Brian Burns Trade
No one in the country music industry understands the Carolina Panthers' struggle better than Luke Combs, a Huntersville native and huge Panthers fan.
Just like most in the Carolinas yesterday, Combs was taken aback by the organization's decision to actually trade star pass rusher Brian Burns.
Just a couple of years ago, the Panthers turned down a pair of first round picks from the Los Angeles Rams for Burns because they felt they could get a deal done. Obviously, they didn't read the room well enough to see that they would remain far off on a deal and by the time they eventually moved on from the elite pass rusher, all they netted was a second round pick, a fifth, and a swap of fifth round picks.
They completely mishandled this situation, just like they did in the trades of RB Christian McCaffrey and DJ Moore. If they wanted to essentially tear things down and build around Bryce Young, they should have included Brian Burns in the trade with Chicago a year ago instead of Moore. Putting Burns in the deal probably would have taken off a couple of picks as well. Now, the Panthers are still without a first-round pick in 2024 and have watched three All-Pro caliber players leave the organization in as many seasons.
A lot of blame will be pointed at new GM Dan Morgan for this but this is all on Scott Fitterer. Had he pulled the trigger on the Rams' proposal, the Panthers wouldn't have lost all value in a Burns trade.
