New England Patriots' Bailey Zappe Reaction to Taylor Swift: 'I Don't Listen'
With the New England Patriots hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, there comes the distinct possibility of pop superstar Taylor Swift making an appearance to support her boyfriend, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.
Due to Swift being arguably the most popular woman in the world right now, it was inevitable that the Patriots would receive some questions about her. Coach Bill Belichick has already said his piece on the matter, and despite the 71-year-old's gruff and tough exterior, he is surprisingly a fan of the world-famous singer. However, Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe doesn't seem to be in the same boat.
In an appearance on WEEI's Jones and Mego, Zappe revealed that he's not the biggest fan of Swift's work, more due to the genre than anything else.
"No, ma’am," Zappe said, per Fox News. "This is not a shot to Taylor Swift. I’m not like, not a fan. I just don’t listen to that music.
"I’m a country guy, so, I mean that’s probably why, since she transferred over to pop. I mean, I knew some of her old songs whenever she was in country, but I mean, I don’t dislike her."
Then in Wednesday's press conference, Zappe further clarified his remarks by repeating that he likes Swift's older work, he's just not as high on her newer songs.
"Okay, so, listen to the whole quote," Zappe told reporters. "I said I'm not not a fan. I used to be a fan. I'm a country guy. I listen to country music. She used to be country. There was times where, of course, Taylor Swift's country songs came on. I'd listen to it. Now she's moved over to pop. I'm not a pop guy. So, I'm a fan. I just don't listen to that type of music. So, just to clear that up in there."
'Blank Space': Bill Belichick Dismisses Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift Ahead of Patriots Hosting Chiefs
As a native of Victoria, Texas who played his college ball at Western Kentucky, it doesn't come as a big surprise that Zappe is more into Swift's older, more-country songs.
The second-year quarterback will make his third start of the season when the Patriots welcome the Chiefs to Gillette Stadium on Sunday, when a very famous spectator may be in the building.
