Shocking 'Swiftie': Patriots' Bill Belichick a Fan of Taylor Swift?
New England Patriots fans are accustomed to seeing iconic quarterback Tom Brady linked to celebrities. Gisele Bündchen, Veronika Rajek, Kim Kardashian, Irina Shayk, et al.
But Bill Belichick?! Sure enough, the notoriously gruff coach is apparently a "Swiftie." Even if he has no idea what that is.
Wildly popular singer Taylor Swift brought her tour to Foxboro's Gillette Stadium for three nights last May and - shocker - the 71-year-old Belichick was in the sellout crowd of mostly screaming teen "Swiftie" girls belting out every lyric.
The gruff coach who trends more toward Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi attended Night No. 2, when Swift performed through driving rain and a thunderstorm.
“That was pretty impressive,” Belichick said during a Monday morning appearance on Audacy's WEEI The Greg Hill Show. "She is tough, man. She just stood out there and played right through (the rain)."
The two couldn't be more opposite, of course. Swift wears - sings - her heart on her sleeve, writing love songs about life and romantic relationships gone awry. Belichick, on the other hand, notoriously grumbles his way through life not letting opponents or media know how he's truly feeling.
But is Bill becoming a "Swiftie"?
“Officially? I don’t know about that. I don’t know what officially is,” Belichick said. “What does that mean, like you have a sweatshirt or something?”
We can see it now: Coming to a Patriots' sideline this season, the Belichick "Swiftie" hoodie.
And if you thought this was just a passing comment by Bill, he even threw down some lyrics from a popular Swift song, "You Need to Calm Down."
"Well look, I’m definitely on the “you’ve got to calm down.’” Belichick said. “That’s pretty good, like you’ve got to calm down. There’s a lot of times when that’s very appropriate. You’ve got to calm down.”
